When we think of spiritual revival, it is necessary to understand what revival means: Revival is an experience that produces adjustments and changes in people’s lives and in the life of churches. E. G. White defined it in a simple manner in the following quotation:
- Revival and Reformation are two different things. Revival signifies a renewal of spiritual life, a quickening of the powers of mind and heart, a resurrection from spiritual death. Reformation signifies a reorganization, a change in ideas and theories, habits and practices. Selected Messages, Vol. 1, page 128.
If revival generates reorganization in ideas, habits and practices, you as a leader at the local church need to know how to promote this revival experience. Let’s consider some issues before you start.
- Secularism has not been the answer. There are many who have achieved an academic title, a good professional job, and an elevated social position, and nevertheless feel an emptiness in their lives. Material possessions have not satisfied all the needs of the human being.
- Because people are spiritually thirsty and wish to have answers for all their questions on spiritual matters. This is not the time for entertaining programs on spiritual & religious issues. It is time for solid bread, I mean the word of God. People are looking for a church where they can find God.
3. The spiritual interest of the people is not in Christianity as a religion, or particularly in any church and its mission. The spiritual interest lies in the desire to know God: Who is God?, Who am I?, Why am I here?
The local church is the right place to promote and motivate the spiritual revival: The process include five steps:
Define the church officers, for the small, medium or large church.
- Identify the priorities of the church, (detect the needs of the different groups in your church.
- Choose strategies to fill the needs. The term strategy is derived from Greek word strategos wich literally means “the general of the army”. So we can define strategy as a different way of doing things in order to manage more effectively, acquire bigger achievements and betters results.
- Define action plans for your annual church program, including the annual budget.
- Go through Implementation & Evaluation during every quarter of the year.
This process includes a Spiritual Revival Week that explores: Who is God, the problem that arose in the Kingdom of God, the solution to the sin problem, and the requeriment to be accepted in the Kingdon fo of God.
This experience will take you to recognize: God’s principles, God’s values, God’s instructions, God’s plans, and God’s methods. When we walk in this world through the roads that we think are the ways of God, to walk with our own criteria, which we think are the criteria of God, using our own values that we think are the values of God and using our own methods we think are the methods of God we are on the wrong path. Exploring the Word of God to hear the voice : “This is the way, walk in it”. Whenever you turn to the right hand or whenever you turn to the left. Isa. 30:21
f you allow God to be your God, this will generate greater interest in the knowledge of God, and will develop a new interest in the study of the Word of God, prayer life, and the participation in evangelism will reflect your personal relationship with God.
